11th Annual High School Engineering Olympics winners announced

This week, 80 high school students came to Sci-Port to participate in our 11th Annual High School Engineering Olympics. Students from River Oaks Academy, Captain Shreve High School, Byrd High School and Bossier High School took part in engineering challenges, which covered mechanical, robotics, structural, acoustic and electronics engineering. Engineers from around the area, including SWEPCO, Louisiana Tech and Honeywell UOP’s Robert Newberry volunteered to help judge the contestants.

Sci-Port’s celebration of National Engineering Week (February 20 – 26) was made possible in part by the Louisiana Engineering Society – Shreveport Chapter.

Pictured above are students from Captain Shreve High School participating in the Tuna Car Challenge. This activity comprised of a can of tuna and compact discs; the students were to build a car powered by the weight of the falling tuna can.
